LOOKING IN
‘LOOKING IN’ explores a woman’s ability to express, identify, and gain control in response to physically and psychologically restrictive clothing from the lens of several different cultures globally and historically. ‘Looking in’ explores Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki’s photographs of bondaged women in Tokyo’s underground sex scene as well as the burqa’s ability to conceal one’s identity. Traditional mens tailoring is used to juxtapose the symbolisim behind these traditionally limiting garments.
